My Very FIRST Anti Haul

Hey Everyone,

Y’all know the drill here already and know what anti haul is all about. Long story short, it’s the list of items that I’m not gonna buy. All hail Kimberly Clarke on YouTube that started this

So without further ado, let’s get into it..

First up is, the Kylie ‘new’ bronze palette

One word, BORING. Before you even think to buy this, check your Modern Renaissance, Naked Heat, Tarte Toasted and that hundreds (hmm…) of Colourpop palettes. Unless you’re really really new into makeup, I bet you already have all these colours in your collection.

Up Next…. Colourpop X MakeupShayla

Well here’s another example of the palette bombing by Colourpop. This one is their collab is with MakeupShayla. The colour choice is just not inspiring for me. Probably because of the very graphic background, so it makes the colours in the palette don’t really pop out. Anyway, for me there’s nothing really special and unique from this palette.

Go get yourself some singles instead to get that pop of colors 😉

Next one is actually kinda make me consider to get it just because I love the brand. Her eyeshadow quality is quite up there so this Kat Von D palette surely attract me

but, it makes me want to say Hello again Metal Matte palette..Oops, wrong palette?

This really looks gorgeous but then again, it doesn’t make me go head over heels to get this one. Besides, the color selection is so similar with the metal matte, pastel goth and some other of her palette launched before. Sorry Kat Von D, I love your brand and products but this time I gotta pass

Next one is

Nothing against Laura Lee here, but none of her palettes caught my eyes. Personally, it’s just another news that I know of but not an exciting one. It is not enough to make me want to do something about it. Pretty packaging though.

Pfiuh…so many palettes released here

These 2 give me a serious dejavu. The coral one is very STD aka standard-looking. Just another warm tone palette from different brand. Next? The Gemstone one kinda tickle me a little, but only shimmers in one palette? I know my lazy ass will only use it a couple times, with another palette to compliment it but after that it’s gonna be a long term tenant in my drawer.

Well all in all, if you feel like any of these items here go get it and share your thought here.

Or do you have your own anti haul list? Please feel free to share it

Nyx Haul

Hey Everybody, smell the weekend already?

I lost my control last February. Not only because the tax return gives me more chance to do so, but also simply because I have no self determination at all to stop myself from buying makeup. So here is another post as the proof of my success (or failure) to get a good bargain on makeup

From Nyx Website

Nyx Lippies (Grabbed this on 40% off Sale)

  1. Nyx Butter Gloss ($ 4.99)

($ 6.00 for the Butter Gloss set, as of right now when I posted the sets I got is sold out)

Set #9 : Apple Strudel, Cranberry Biscotti, Angel Food Cake

Individual : Peaches and Cream, Strawberry Cheesecake

Since you all know I’m not a fan of liquid lipstick, I’ll let you know something else about me here: If there’s any liquid lip product that I will gladly buy, It is gonna be lip gloss. Why? Because it feel comfortable on the lip, not drying (it’s hydrating actually) and it makes my lips look fuller without the hassle of drawing the lip with lip liner. Yes, I’m a lazy girl at its best.

  1. Nyx Pin-Up Pout Lipstick ($ 8.00)

Shades : Darling, Bombshell, Boundless

This lipstick is claimed to be a classic, creamy lipstick. Y’all probably have known my relationship with liquid lipstick is pretty much over so this year and I really avoid it. From the reviews about this new lipstick from Nyx, I haven’t heard any bad one. Since I just got it I haven’t really played with it much, but so far it felt fine on my lips, not drying but not as creamy as I expected.

PS: The shipping took quite long time. I made my order on 17th February and received my order on 1st of March. So you have to be patient a little bit

From Ulta

BOGO Free SALE – I bought this in store, it’s not BOGO but each price is discounted 50% which turned out cheaper than if you buy BOGO. The sale valid until March 4

  1. Strobe Of Genius ($ 18.99)

    This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’ve been eyeing this palette for so long, pretty much because of the lilac and rose gold tone in it. I’m actually not a fan of highlighter, but the first time I saw it, it just got my eye. After swatching it and seeing the pretty reflex from each shade, I know I have to grab this. You’re not gonna regret this palette, it gives you pretty glow, you can also use it as eyeshadow or eyeshadow and blush topper.

  1. Avant Pop – Surreal My Heart ($ 16.99)

I grabbed this just because of the blue and teal green in this one, besides it’s BOGO deal so why not 😉 But it turns out the shades are really nice. I haven’t played with any Nyx eyeshadow since their super old one that came in small packaging called smokey. I have to say, I’m impressed with this palette. The pigmentation is good, not crazily pigmented but not patchy either. The texture is more on the dry side but it’s soft not gritty. The blue and teal is almost like metallic finish but not intense. The other neutral shades are semi-matte leaning to satin finish with no shimmer. Except for the yellow that I don’t really know when to use, the other colors are really nice. I like the grey shade below the blue, it’s not just grey but have some blue undertone in it and really nice for cool tone crease color. I’m actually thinking to grab the other 2 of this Avant Pop series

  1. Ultimate Brights (17.99)

Still holding a ‘disappointment’ from my last rainbow colorful palette of UD Full Spectrum, I decided to try this one. Holy moly, this one is better than the UD one. Sorry UD, I love your naked palettes, but Girl for the price of $17.99 this little gem works better than the $39 one. The pigmentation isn’t as great like Kat Von D matte shade in metal matte, but it’s better than UD for sure, it’s not patchy and definitely you can get more pigmentation out of this one.

I did swatch this with 2 methods, one without any primer or whatsoever and the second one using nyx jumbo eye pencil in milk. The one with white base is definitely more vibrant and bring out the color more. Overall, this palette is really good, and I highly recommend it.

  1. Sweet Cheeks Blush palette (19.99)

Let’s be honest, who need 8 colors of blushes? I believe people actually only need 4, pink, peach, and purple-y (plummy) one. This palette though, it really makes it easy to justify that I need all 8 colors in there. The first two shades on the top row are more like a highlighter or blush topper. The other six are all matte. The blush is pretty pigmented that I suggest you to dip in your brush with light hand, especially to the deeper shades.

  1. Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder ($ 7.99)

For someone who claim to be not a highlighter fan, these illuminating powder caught my eye very well. Initially I swatch this in store to compare it to the Strobe of Genius and to see if they’re the same but they’re not. I got the shade Lavender Steel and Crushed Bloom. Lavender Steel in texture is more buttery soft like powder. It’s a beautiful lilac with pink reflex highlight. Crushed Bloom is more on the grittier side, not rough but drier. It’s a rose gold orange shade that’s really beautiful on top of pinky blush.

T-B : Lavender Steel – Crushed Bloom

First time I swatch them, o my goodness, the reflex from these shades are GORGEOUS. I tried the Crushed Bloom on top the ‘Candied Peach’ shade from Too Faced Sweet Peach palette and it really amped up the peach glow. Love love love. Another thing from Nyx that makes me want to get every shade from this line. It’s not a Bam! blinding highlight but it gives you chic nice healthy glow

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think about them?

Let me know in the comments below

Peace out!

Battle of the Colorful palette

Why do I need colorful palette?

I want some colors in my collection, because most of my collection are full with neutral eye shadow and not many pop of color. I’m a neutral and smokey eye lover but there are times that I want some colors too

Do I really need such rainbow in my makeup collection?

Well, the answer for the need is actually no, but my curiosity got the best of me as usual when it comes to makeup.

So here it is, my thought on the colorful eyeshadow palettes that I own. I’m gonna rate it based on the palette quality, wearability, and my suggestion to use. Starting from the top rank to my least favorite

1. Metal Matte by Kat Von

Is it a good palette (pigmentation, blendability, longevity) ? Yes

Is it a must have? Yes (too bad it’s limited edition)

Is it for every skin tone? Yes

Can this be worn anytime? Yes

Can this be a stand-alone palette? Yes

This is the best palette of all time. For the love story between me and an eyeshadow palettes, this palette takes it all. You got all the color you need without looking too crazy colorful.

Pigmentation is excellent and the metallic shadows in this palette don’t need wet brush to get the vibrant colors pop. All the swatches here are fingers swatches with very light swipe no pressing at all. The colors stay put in your eyes even when you don’t use any primer below that. It’s so easy to blend (all Kat Von D eye shadow are easy to blend) but it doesn’t just simply mixed together so then you lose the original color.

To top it off, you also can get such a ‘normal’ look from it. Neutral nude eye, warm tone brown, a simple dark brown or even black smokey eyes, matte and metallic shade combination are all possible to get from this one palette. I almost put this as my only favorite eyeshadow of 2016 but it’s limited edition so not necessarily accessible for everyone.

2. Sugar Pop by Too Faced

Is it a good palette? Yes

Is it a must have? Depends

Is it for every skin tone? Yes (but a little tricky for deeper skin tone)

Can this be worn anytime? Yes

Can this be a stand alone palette? Yes

There aren’t many colors in this palette, since it’s only 9 colors palette, but Too Faced never let me down with its color selection in the palette. To be honest, this probably is the Too Faced palettes that is not repetitive or interchangeable with other palettes (let’s say, you don’t really need Natural Eyes palette if you already have the Chocolate Bar palettes)

This is a unique colorful palette which is more on pastel-y side. The pigmentation good but because it is pastel tone, you can’t easily get the vibrant color in just one swipe (this is also why I said it’s tricky for deeper skin tone, because eyeshadow base is a must otherwise you won’t see much color compared to lighter skin tone that can still get away without a base and just simply going 2-3 times to pack the color) but still the colors are so vibrant and pretty. As I have mentioned, white eyeshadow base is needed to help the color popped more or put a black or dark base to built a vibrant deeper tone.

This palette is great for spring and summer, but who am I to judge if you want to pop the dark purple and hot pink for fall and winter tone? I do really think that this is a really nice palette to have if you just need a little color as a variation in your collection. It’s not a palette with crazy bold purple, yellow, red color but still not a boring choice of color to put on your eyes once in a while.

3. 28 Foiled Eyeshadow by BH Cosmetics

Is it a good palette? Yes

Is it a must have? Depends

Is it for every skin tone? Yes

Can this be worn anytime? Yes

Can this be a stand alone palette? No (for me)

This palette lands the 3rd place not because it’s not pigmented enough. It’s actually quite pigmented even without using a wet brush (on the swatches picture the top part is dry brush swatch, the bottom one is brush swatch wet)  This palette can only be my #3 choice because it’s an all foiled eyeshadow and has no matte at all. The reason I bought this was of course because, one, I wanted to have some pops of color in my collection, two, I thought this foiled colors can be just easily to put on the lid, and three, BH cosmetics is an affordable product with decent if not pretty good quality.

But as I use it more, I realize that I can’t use this palette without having another palette with it. I know I just want to use them as eyelid color, but it’s just not practical and convenient to always have at least two palette to use this (at least for me). If you are not a hooded eyes girl like me, this palette will most definitely be on a higher rank. But, since I always need matte transition color and cannot get away from it, this palette is just not enough for me to look “put together” by only using it. It’s pretty, so pigmented (sheen shimmery look without wet brush, or shimmery with more vibrant look with wet brush application)

Another good thing about this palette is this can be used anytime spring summer fall winter, it has the color for every season because of the color range in the palette itself. Last but not least, any skin tone can pull this one off, again because the color choice that it has can suit anybody.

4. Full Spectrum by Urban Decay

Is it a good palette? So so

Is it a must have? No

Is it for every skin tone? Yes

Can this be worn anytime? Yes

Can this be a stand-alone palette? No

Disclaimer : the packaging is super gorgeous!! and it’s the reason why it’s so hard to put this palette at the bottom of my list. But, honesty is the best policy, so sorry Urban Decay, doesn’t matter how pretty your packaging is, it’s not how I rate my eyeshadow palette.

Opening the palette for the first time took my breath away. It literally is a color spectrum in a palette. It’s beautiful, the placement of colors is stunning, the big mirror is to die for. But, why does this palette fall on the bottom of my list?

When it comes to eye shadow palette, my biggest concern is the pigmentation. Is it not pigmented? No. All I can say is, this eyeshadow is not as pigmented as an Urban Decay eye shadow that I’m familiar with.

Do I hate it? No. Can I work with it? Sure, you can always build the pigmentation by using wet brush or putting a base before applying it. But, because I’m a long time user of naked palettes (the original one, naked 2 and naked 3), this palette is just not up to par. Its formula is more on the dry side, (this could be a matter of personal preference) but not the kind of dry that I’m used to with my other palettes from Urban Decay. I know that Urban Decay eyeshadow is not always the buttery silky soft one, but because I’m familiar with their dry formula, this one still just doesn’t do it for me.

When you can use this palette more? I can’t say it’s an everyday palette because the color choice in this color is pretty bold in this palette. If you like smokey blue, or purple or green everyday then by all means, use this everyday and skin tone doesn’t really matter here because you have plenty colors to choose.

That’s all for now, Girls. If you have questions about the palettes above, request on product that you want to know more, or just want to say hi and share your experience if you have the same palettes, feel free to drop a comment down below

Peace out!

2016 Favorites

Happy New Year Everybody!!

Hope you all had a great celebration and wish us a great year ahead of us. Amen!

If you follow me on Instagram you probably already know what’s in this post, so without further due let’s get into it

Beauty Favorite 2016

  1. Body Shop Honey Body Butter

This has been a long time friend of mine. It’s buttery (hence the name   body butter, duh!) smells soooo frickin good, and it’s not sticky or runny. The packaging is also very travel friendly. This body butter is also my best friend for the winter, when every other body lotion do not make my skin feel moisturized enough, this one never fails me.

2. St. Ives Collagen Elastin Moisturizer

Large amount of product, with very affordable price and big impact. I just started using moisturizer in the last 2 years, and I had trouble finding one that doesn’t make my skin more greasy than it already is. Hey hey hey, I finally found this one (thank you Pinterest) and Girls, it does its wonder. Not only it moisturizes my skin very well, it also helps to make my skin to get normal. Couldn’t ask for a better moisturizer.

3. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

Do I really need to explain why this product is so good? Multifunction, that’s the best way to define it. It works wonder for lip balm, mix it with sugar then it’s a lip exfoliator, dry skin on your elbow, knee? Grab this one to make it soft again. Another recent find is that put this as an eye cream before you go to sleep, it helps to reduce fine lines. Oh, one more thing, as my skin is too sensitive, it’s hard for me to find a makeup remover that doesn’t break me out and Girl, I tell you what, this jelly works wonder in removing makeup! Even that waterproof mascara so ever since I found this function, I never ever ever not having this in my house.

4. Baby skin by Maybelline + Nars All Day Luminous Foundation

This is the combo that has become my no brainer almost everyday. When I just need to look presentable for running errands or just an everyday look, these two are my first choice. The primer covers my big pores very well, no funny smell, and even though it’s silicon-y type it doesn’t slide or feel greasy. Nars foundation is the one and only foundation with “luminous” in its name that I’m not scared of. It doesn’t make my look oily, but give a nice glowy and dewy effect without looking like a greasy pan. This foundation has a medium coverage but buildable without looking cakey. You only need 1.5 pumps for all over the face and it already give more than decent coverage on the skin.

5. Tarte – Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette

You guys probably bored with this palette, cause I’ve mentioned this so many times. Check the full review why I love this palette here. But in short explanation, hooded eyes, matte lovers, transition color, versatile, travel friendly, pigmentation and blendability, this palette is a staple.

6. Mac Lipstick, blush, powder.

As the first high end brand that I knew back then, these products have a special place in my heart. The comfort on my lips, super wide color range and multiple finished (matte, frost, satin, creamy) you can find everything you need from their lipstick and blush. As for the powder, with the different type of products (blotting powder, powder foundation, mineralize powder) available and its color range from light to deep skin tone, make Mac hard to beat. This is not only 2016 favorite but it is probably a decade favorite for me.

7. Better than Sex Mascara by Too Faced

I know this mascara probably is in a lot of people favorite, but that only help me to explain why this mascara is so good. First time I tried this (around April) I found it has a little weird wand shape but holy moly, As a hater of fake lashes, I can never stop using it ever since. What happen next is sometimes I put 2-3 coats mascara but this one is always the first one I reach (kinda use it as a base). It gives a really nice volume and length to my straight eyelash. The only down side is that this mascara isn’t the easiest one to use on lower lash.

Last but not least,

8. Chanel Duo Eyeliner

This can actually be the most expensive of the product I love here. Bought it in Singapore airport duty free and Girls, this last a looong time. It comes with 2 brushes in it, one for lining and the other one for smudging and 2 eyeliner compacts, one is opaque and the other one is with a sheen glitter that can also be used as eyeshadow. Smudge-proof, last long, doesn’t smear. You do need to wet the brush for making the liner work but after it dries on you lid, it stays put.

Hope you all enjoy this post and have a nice new year!

My Favorite Eyeshadow Palette 2016

If you follow me in Instagram, probably you already know what’s my favorite eyeshadow palette in 2016. So without further due, let’s get into it

screen-shot-2016-12-15-at-2-21-18-pm1. Kat Von D – Chrysalis Palette

Can be found at Kat Von D website at $ 46

If you’re lucky, I found this palette at Marshalls for $19.99

Girl, look at those colors. Yes, I am a sucker for blue and purple shadow because     those two are just so easy to wear and match me the best (in my opinion). So here is my opinion about this palette

  • Pigmentation is excellent. You can get the color just like what you see on the pan. Using eyeshadow base will make the color pops even more.
  • Very soft, smooth, and buttery on the texture
  • Very easy to blend
  • Almost no fall out even though it’s so soft
  • Last for a good 4-6 hours without creasing

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills – Modern Renaissance Palette

Can be found at ABH website, Sephora, Ulta

This is a palette that I never thought I would like at all. I’m a neutral, cool tone eyeshadow lover so it’s so rare if not almost never you see me with red, pink, orange color on my eye. Dark bronze and rose gold are the warmest I can go. My opinion for this palette is the same with the Chrysalis palette in terms of pigmentation, texture, blendability, and no creasing. However there is a little difference in the Modern Renaissance palette in terms of fall out, this palette is so soft and you can get a lot of kick up from the pan so you do have to tap the brush before applying it to the eyes. My suggestion is to use very light hand in picking up the colors in this palette.

Final words :

  • These two are my favorite, and if people ask what will I recommend as a must have eyeshadow palette, I will say this two will make you have more than enough eyeshadow color to create various look from neutral, cool, warm, smokey, rosy, feminine or even grungy and gothic look.
  • Do you need these two palettes as your collection? I will definitely say yes, cause they are very unique and their color combination can be hardly found in other palette.
  • Do these palettes worth the price? For me, yes. I got the Kat Von D at Marshalls for $20. With this kind of high quality that you get in both palettes they are both definitely worth the price. And to be honest, ever since I get them I always compare other palettes to these in every aspects

Palette Recommendation or Alternative?

For the Chrysalis, I haven’t found any other palette that has the same color combination. Maybe Urban Decay Smoky, but the UD color is darker and it’s more in the shimmery finish while the Kat Von D is in matte to sheer shimmer finish.

For the Modern Renaissance, there are more alternatives such as Huda Beauty or Natasha Denona which are more in the high-end alley, as for the drugstore probably morphe 35F.
