Minimalist Makeup Kit – Drugstore Version

Dear Pretties,

Have you ever sit on your makeup vanity and wonder how do we end up with all those goodies there? How did it begin? When did it start to piling up? šŸ˜‰ Well, I did.

While reorganizing my collection during my moving period last month, a random thought crossed my mind. If I have to start all over again, knowing what I know now about makeup, what will be my choice to start a makeup collection?

Here I create two kits based to start a simple, complete and pretty solid choice to begin your makeup journey. Or, if you just want to downsize your makeup collection (check out my downsizing post here) dMy kits here are created based on my skin condition and need. I have combo oily skin with big pores on my nose, sensitive, and hormonal acne during that time of our life, Girls, every month šŸ˜‰

Let’s begin with the drugstore version, shall we

Face

1.Nyx Angel Veil ā€“ 15.99

This is claimed to be the dupe of Hourglass Mineral Veil. For me, itā€™s not necessarily a dupe. The Nyx is a tad bit more slippy than the Hourglass one but the feel on the skin

2. Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation – 12.99

This is my most preferred foundation that wonā€™t make me look like grease ball for the longest time

3. Rimmel Stay Matter Pressed Powder ā€“ 5.49

Need I say more about this cult classic? Keep oil at bay at all time

IMG_5053

4. Physician Formula Butter Bronzer – $ 14.99

Great smell, have a pretty neutral undertone, easy to build the pigmentation without going overboard

5. Nyx Sweet Cheek Blush Palette ā€“ $ 19.99

It has all the color choice of blush that you can think of

*Optional

  • Elf Contour palette, if you’re into detail contouring, if not the bronzer will do just fine
  • Nyx Strobe of Genius, for the highlighter fans, you will get all tones of highlighter you need in one palette

Eyes

6. Nyx Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palette ā€“ $16.99/ Colourpop Pressed Powder (singles option) ā€“ $ 5.00

I like the formula of these eyeshadow, very comparable to the high end one. Both, the palette and the singles are very easy to work with. Nix Prismatic eyeshadow is also another good choice for singles.

7. Lā€™oreal Silkissime ā€“ 9.49 Pencil Eyeliner / Maybelline Master Precise ā€“ 8.49

The Silkissime is great for waterline (PS: Emily Noel APPROVED) and the Maybelline is great for that sharp wing

8. Lash Sensational Mascara/ Lā€™oreal Carbon Black ā€“ 8.99

I love the curvy wand of the Lash Sensational and the dense of Loreal one for more volume and dramatic effect

PS: i think drugstore mascara are better than high end one, Maybelline has the best choice šŸ˜‰

Lips

IMG_5051

9. Maybelline Lipstick ā€“ 7.49

Maybelline has one of the best lipstick choice at the drugstore. Be it the type of lipstick (classic bullet or liquid), color, pigmentation and formula. If you’re a fan of liquid lipstick, Wet n Wild Catsuit is a great option. But if you’re picky like me, and doesn’t like the drying feel on the lips, L’oreal Infallible Lip Paints is a much more comfortable choice.

Finish

  1. Mario Badescu setting spray (rose) ā€“ 12.00

This spray works really well for skin prep, to set the makeup to make it stay put. Smells really good too. A recent choice that’s also really great is the Milani Make It Last setting spray.

Total : $ 124.41

So, do you have these in your collection? or what will you suggest for creating a complete makeup kit?Ā Let me know in the comments down below, or leave your idea on my Instagram and Twitter

Stay tune for the “more fancy” version of this minimalist makeup kit šŸ˜€

March Favorite

Hey Pretties,

IMG_3887

Just wanna say Hi to you all. Sorry Iā€™ve been so inactive in my blog these past weeks, kinda ā€œcheatā€ with the swimming pool as the weatherā€™s been so warm (if not hot) here. Iā€™m super late this month to write this, I know. But here we go with my super simple favorite of March. Iā€™ve been in a very minimal product to use in March, so I use one palette to get a complete look.

1.Ā Nyx Ultimate Bright Palette

img_2899

Since itā€™s spring already, Iā€™ve been really digging the colorful tone in my eyes and this palette is a perfect fit for that. Personally, these are the tones of color that I will use in my eyes if Iā€™m asked to do colorful eyes

2. Nyx Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette

This palette is beautiful! No kidding, all the shades are very wearable and have enough pigmentation to be used eyeshadow too. Iā€™ve been using this palette a lot since I got it, especially for the days that I just want a very minimal makeup that makes me look put together

3. Physician Formula Butter Bronzer

Iā€™m trying to get my tan back but not really a fan of self-tanning products so this bronzer has been a really best friend for me in the month of March. I use it pretty much all over my face because it has a very subtle bronze, matte and looks really good just like face powder. You can also build it up without looking muddy or cakey.

4. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation

Great formula for my oily skin, very liquidy but still have decent natural coverage that I like. Full review on this foundation was on my last post. Itā€™s also buildable to medium coverage when I need it. This foundation also mixes very well with my moisturizer as a tinted moisturizer

5. Formula 10.0.6 Shine Free Moisturizer

You guys know that Iā€™m super oily, so the less product for me the better. Iā€™m obsessed with this moisturizer ever since I got it. It does keep the oil at bay, help my face looks dewy (not oily) and help to make my make up stay put longer. It has a light creamy consistency, and apply very well when I mix it with liquid foundation (Iā€™ve been mixing it with my Tarte or Mac Face and Body Foundation)

6. Mac Prep + Prime Fix+ Rose

You guys know all the drill about Mac Fix+, and this one is just those good stuff with rose scent added. Love it to intensify eyeshadow, prep my skin before foundation and also setting up my makeup.

Do any of you like to ā€œcut cornerā€ in putting on makeup šŸ˜‰ just to make it faster to get ready?

Let me know in the comment below if you like less makeup product when itā€™s spring-summer time

Peace out!

Nyx Haul

Hey Everybody, smell the weekend already?

I lost my control last February. Not only because the tax return gives me more chance to do so, but also simply because I have no self determination at all to stop myself from buying makeup. So here is another post as the proof of my success (or failure) to get a good bargain on makeup

From Nyx Website

Nyx Lippies (Grabbed this on 40% off Sale)

img_2961

  1. Nyx Butter Gloss ($ 4.99)

($ 6.00 for the Butter Gloss set, as of right now when I posted the sets I got is sold out)

Set #9 : Apple Strudel, Cranberry Biscotti, Angel Food Cake

Individual : Peaches and Cream, Strawberry Cheesecake

Since you all know Iā€™m not a fan of liquid lipstick, Iā€™ll let you know something else about me here: If thereā€™s any liquid lip product that I will gladly buy, It is gonna be lip gloss. Why? Because it feel comfortable on the lip, not drying (itā€™s hydrating actually) and it makes my lips look fuller without the hassle of drawing the lip with lip liner. Yes, Iā€™m a lazy girl at its best.

  1. Nyx Pin-Up Pout Lipstick ($ 8.00)

Shades : Darling, Bombshell, Boundless

This lipstick is claimed to be a classic, creamy lipstick. Yā€™all probably have known my relationship with liquid lipstick is pretty much over so this year and I really avoid it. From the reviews about this new lipstick from Nyx, I havenā€™t heard any bad one. Since I just got it I havenā€™t really played with it much, but so far it felt fine on my lips, not drying but not as creamy as I expected.

PS: The shipping took quite long time. I made my order on 17th February and received my order on 1st of March. So you have to be patient a little bit

BOGO Free SALE – I bought this in store, it’s not BOGO but each price is discounted 50% which turned out cheaper than if you buy BOGO. The sale valid until March 4

  1. Strobe Of Genius ($ 18.99)

Iā€™ve been eyeing this palette for so long, pretty much because of the lilac and rose gold tone in it. Iā€™m actually not a fan of highlighter, but the first time I saw it, it just got my eye. After swatching it and seeing the pretty reflex from each shade, I know I have to grab this. Youā€™re not gonna regret this palette, it gives you pretty glow, you can also use it as eyeshadow or eyeshadow and blush topper.

  1. Avant Pop ā€“ Surreal My Heart ($ 16.99)

img_2902

I grabbed this just because of the blue and teal green in this one, besides itā€™s BOGO deal so why not šŸ˜‰ But it turns out the shades are really nice. I havenā€™t played with any Nyx eyeshadow since their super old one that came in small packaging called smokey. I have to say, Iā€™m impressed with this palette. The pigmentation is good, not crazily pigmented but not patchy either. The texture is more on the dry side but itā€™s soft not gritty. The blue and teal is almost like metallic finish but not intense. The other neutral shades are semi-matte leaning to satin finish with no shimmer. Except for the yellow that I don’t really know when to use, the other colors are really nice. I like the grey shade below the blue, it’s not just grey but have some blue undertone in it and really nice for cool tone crease color. Iā€™m actually thinking to grab the other 2 of this Avant Pop series

  1. Ultimate Brights (17.99)

img_2899

Still holding a ā€˜disappointmentā€™ from my last rainbow colorful palette of UD Full Spectrum, I decided to try this one. Holy moly, this one is better than the UD one. Sorry UD, I love your naked palettes, but Girl for the price of $17.99 this little gem works better than the $39 one. The pigmentation isnā€™t as great like Kat Von D matte shade in metal matte, but itā€™s better than UD for sure, itā€™s not patchy and definitely you can get more pigmentation out of this one.

I did swatch this with 2 methods, one without any primer or whatsoever and the second one using nyx jumbo eye pencil in milk. The one with white base is definitely more vibrant and bring out the color more. Overall, this palette is really good, and I highly recommend it.

  1. Sweet Cheeks Blush palette (19.99)

Letā€™s be honest, who need 8 colors of blushes? I believe people actually only need 4, pink, peach, and purple-y (plummy) one. This palette though, it really makes it easy to justify that I need all 8 colors in there. The first two shades on the top row are more like a highlighter or blush topper. The other six are all matte. The blush is pretty pigmented that I suggest you to dip in your brush with light hand, especially to the deeper shades.

  1. Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder ($ 7.99)

screen-shot-2017-03-03-at-10-28-37-am

For someone who claim to be not a highlighter fan, these illuminating powder caught my eye very well. Initially I swatch this in store to compare it to the Strobe of Genius and to see if they’re the same but they’re not. I got the shade Lavender Steel and Crushed Bloom. Lavender Steel in texture is more buttery soft like powder. It’s a beautiful lilac with pink reflex highlight. Crushed Bloom is more on the grittier side, not rough but drier. It’s a rose gold orange shade that’s really beautiful on top of pinky blush.

screen-shot-2017-03-03-at-10-29-07-am

T-B : Lavender Steel – Crushed Bloom

First time I swatch them, o my goodness, the reflex from these shades are GORGEOUS. I tried the Crushed Bloom on top the ‘Candied Peach’ shade from Too Faced Sweet Peach palette and it really amped up the peach glow. Love love love. Another thing from Nyx that makes me want to get every shade from this line. It’s not a Bam! blinding highlight but it gives you chic nice healthy glow

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think about them?

Peace out!
