Oily Skin Series: Foundation

Hey Guys!

Can you smell the sun already? I do! Charleston weather feels like summer already 🙂

Anyway, since summer is almost here I believe we’re all getting ready to get more oily. Well, FYI, I’m an oily skin girl, all year long, not only on summer so it isn’t surprising that you will see me looking like waffle house pan (oily and greasy, not yummy though) with big noticeable pores around my nose and cheek area. Yay me!

So for the sake of all of us oily skin girl, here are my top 3 of high end and top 3 of drugstore foundation.

IMG_3540

Mac Face and Body Foundation ($ 38)

Coverage : Sheer – buildable to medium

Finish : natural

Best application : Sponge or Dense brush

Staying power : 12 hours

IMG_3546

I reach for this foundation on daily basis, because it’s so light on skin but it also gives you a decent amount of coverage but still look like your own skin. As the coverage is really sheer, this foundation is really good to even out your skin tone but not necessarily can totally cover dark circle. I usually do 2 layers for application, the second one is only on certain area that needs more coverage though. This foundation is buildable for sure, but again don’t expect full coverage from it. Oh, I forgot to mention that this foundation is also waterproof! It has a really really good staying power and doesn’t look like your face is melting under the heat or even rain

Tarte Rainforest Water Foundation ($ 39)

Coverage: Medium – buildable to Full

Finish : natural

Best application : brush then sponge

Staying power : 12 hours

IMG_3545

This is a more recent finding for me. I’ve been using it for about 2 months now and Girl!!! I love it. I can say the consistency is very similar to Mac Face and Body foundation but this one has more pigment for coverage. You can use only one layer of this foundation and get a really good coverage, but just like the Mac one, I put on second layer on certain area. I like to apply this with dense brush all over the face ( I use Real Technique Facial Expert brush) then blend it out with damp sponge for smoother finish. This foundation also have SPF 15 in it, but doesn’t give any flashback on photo 🙂

Nars All Day Luminous Foundation ($ 49)

Coverage: Medium – buildable

Finish : demi matte

Best application : Finger or Sponge

Staying power : 8 hours

IMG_3542

Yes it does say it’s luminous but this won’t make your face super dewy and ended up being greasy. This foundation works amazingly for winter time, when my skin is on its slightly drier side. Winter is the only time of the year when I don’t really need to set my foundation with powder on top. This foundation gives me a a slightly dewy but not greasy looking skin. On summer time, I suggest to apply a small amount of translucent powder before you apply the foundation (Wayne Goss APPROVED) to make this last longer and stay put. Ever since I got the trick from Wayne Goss, I always apply my foundation that way especially if I know that I’ll have that makeup on my face more than 6 hours, and trust me, it really works (at least for me). If you want to know the trick in detail, here is the link for the Wayne Goss video

Now on to the drugstore foundation

L’oreal Infallible Pro Matte ($ 12.99)

Coverage : Medium – buildable

Finish : Semi Matte

Staying power : 10 hours

Best application : Sponge

IMG_3544

With all the hype around this foundation, it really is worth it. This is a really nice foundation that will make your skin look nice and matte all day. It doesn’t accentuate pores like other matte foundations I’ve tried before. Of course with my oily ass skin it can’t last 24 hours, but I can look good like the first application without looking shiny for a good 10 hours. One thing that bothers me (not so much though) this foundation feels more heavier (not cakey) on the skin, as its more on the creamy consistency instead of the watery one. It feels like this foundation sitting on the skin instead of sink into it. But, it still gives nice coverage and smooth looking skin.

Maybelline FitMe ($ 7.99)

Coverage : Medium – buildable

Finish : Matte

Staying power : 6 hours

Best application : sponge

IMG_3541

This foundation seems to be a lot of people’s favorite and I’m in it too. It is a very good foundation. It has watery consistency but thicker than Mac or Tarte. To be honest, this also gives more coverage than the Mac or Tarte one, but too bad I don’t know why this only last very short time on my skin. This is the foundation that I will put on only when I know that I just need to get out of the house for a short time, cause it feels like my skin absorbed this foundation very quick. I usually need extra steps to make this foundation look matte and stay on my skin longer.

Covergirl Clean BB Cream ($ 8.49)

Coverage : Sheer

Finish : Natural

Staying power : 8 hours

Best application : finger

IMG_3543

I was a bit skeptical when I got this for the first time. I had bad experience with some BB cream before, they broke me out so bad or it made me look like a hot mess oily face just within 3 hours of application. Surprisingly, this Covergirl BB cream works very well for me. I did test this last summer, I put this on then did a little sun bathing and it stayed put. It feels light on the skin, and really comfortable for those bright sunny days where you just want to make your skin look even without much coverage.

So, what is your favorite foundation for oily skin Girl? Is there any of these  foundations listed here also your “holy grail”?

Let me know your favorite in the comment section below, or drop me a suggestion for another foundation that works well for oily skin, Girl.

Glowy Haul from Beautylish

Dear Y’all!

I promise this is gonna be the last haul post because it’s the last shopping I did before I put myself on no buy month, in the spirit of Lent too! Please pray for me 😀

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.03.53 AM

This time I picked some stuff from Beautylish. I forget when does Beautylish start to have the option to pay in installment (no interest) for the minimum purchase of $ 99 So instead of paying the full amount, this time I paid one third of my total purchase, and it’s free shipping too. The delivery is really awesomely quick (head to head with Sephora) I made the purchase on Friday and the box came on Monday around noon. Wanna know what I got? Keep on reading

  1. Becca Afterglow Palette

I don’t have any Becca product before, and already thinking to get a couple shade at Sephora but of course with $ 38 for a highlighter compact it’s kinda steep (especially after all the haul that I’ve done lately) So of course, I jumped with joy when I saw the Afterglow Palette is still available on Beautylish. This palette is pretty in packaging, the box has a holographic effect and the product itself is a really pretty rose gold container. It look so pretty and luxurious.

L to R : Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone – Rose Gold – Topaz, Mineral Blush in Wild Honey -Flowerchild

When you open it, the Afterglow palette has the beautiful shades that  I set my eye on before. Moonstone and Rosegold are my favorite shade so far. Topaz is a little to golden-y yellow for me right now, but I think I can use it more once summer is here. Oh, and the blush, Girls! both shades are satin finish, buttery soft not powdery, and it gives you just enough sheen that make your cheek healthily blushing like a cute shy girl.

2. Glow on the Go Kit in Opal

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.02.32 AM

It’s a little bummer that Beautylish doesn’t have Champagne Pop. So, after the 3 shades in the Afterglow palette, I snatched the Opal to get almost all the shade of Becca highlighter. It swatches beautifully! I should play with it a little more, especially the liquid one cause Girl! It’s intense.

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.02.45 AM

Top – Bottom : Liquid – Pressed

For someone who doesn’t really into highlighting, I think I’ve stocked up a little too much lately. This is only my first impression, my opinion, put the liquid one then top it off with the pressed one, this so far is my most blinding highlight.

3. Becca Blushed with Light Palette

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.00.43 AM

I missed this palette during the Sephora and Ulta sale at the end of the year. So again, I have to get this and yes, it’s worth getting. Not only the packaging is gorgeous, the blushes are also buttery soft and super pretty. Highly recommend this if you haven’t got it already.

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.01.19 AM

Top-Bottom: Luminous blush in Snapdragon – Mineral Blush in Song Bird – Wisteria

I will put blush in my no buy list for now, since I’ve been going crazy with blush shopping since beginning of the year. The shades in this palette are pretty much 3 shades that I use the most. The Wisteria is a very pretty matte soft pink blush that still have a little subtle sheen to it. I will say that it’s more satin than matte. The Song bird is a very pretty nude peachy blush. It’s said shimmering blush on the product description but it’s not really a crazy shimmery blush with glitter reflex. As for the Snapdragon, no doubt it’s a shimmering shade. If you’re like me who doesn’t really like highlight for everyday look, you won’t need highlight if you put Snapdragon on your cheek.

4. Jouer Lip Crème in Citronade Rose

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.03.10 AM

Holy Moly, this metallic liquid lipstick is gorgeous. If you follow me on Instagram you probably have seen that I couldn’t help myself not to play with this rightaway. Not only it’s a beautiful metallic pink on the lips, I also put in on my eyelid to intensify my eye look. Just pop it a little bit on the hand and pick it up with synthetic brush and pack it on the lid. It’s super pretty, especially with neon pink base.

Screen Shot 2017-03-08 at 9.03.38 AM

As a fan of pink lippies, this lip creme gets my attention in the first swipe. It smells really good to (kinda similar to Nyx soft matte lip creme) It’s super comfortable on the lips, dry down pretty quick and wanna talk about longevity, this one doesn’t budge and smear at all. Once it’s set on the lips, it stays put but not sucking up your lips that makes your lips feel cracking and dry. Psst…already started to put some other colors in my cart for the next haul 😉 Let me know what shades should I get!

So far I’ve been enjoying my haul, and I can see myself using them a lot.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think about them?

AM/PM Skin Care Routine

Hey Lovelies,

I do not, by all means, have the most flawless skin, but I would like to share with you guys my attempt to take good care of my skin. Here are the products I use, started with my skin condition so you can see if these products might be suitable for you.

Enjoy!

SKIN CONDITION

  1. Oily skin with visible pores on my nose and inner cheek (near the nose)
  2. Visible dark circle with fine lines (the aging is real)
  3. Hormonal acne

MORNING ROUTINE (This routine is a must and I never skip any of this product anytime, anywhere)

img_1778

  1. Cetaphil Daily Cleanser for Oily Skin

This has been my best friend for about 7 years now. I struggled to find the right face wash for me until a friend of mine suggested this. It’s really gentle on the skin, and controls my oil without making my face feels stiff. I usually went through a break out phase when I change face wash, but not with this one. Wouldn’t change this with anything.

  1. Clean and Clear Deep Cleansing Toner

Another long time best friend of mine. CleanNClear has been with me even longer, probably since high school so it’s been forever. This toner helps to prevent blemishes, acne, and control oil too. It smells kinda strong, almost like rubbing alcohol, which I’m totally fine with it, my skin always feel so refreshed and cool after using it.

  1. St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Moisturizer

Wow, that’s a mouthful name! I have never used moisturizer because of the classic mistake, more moisturizer = more oily. Nope, that’s not the case with this moisturizer. I believe I’ve reviewed this in my 2016 favorite,(here) Long story short, not oily, moisturize my skin very well and make my skin feel firm not stiff (kinda like jello haha…)

EVENING/NIGHT ROUTINE

img_1777

  1. Noxzema Classic Clean

This gives me the best feeling to strip of my makeup off without exfoliation. I have big pores problem and definitely need to deep clean my face everyday especially after putting my makeup on. But, I just can’t stand using face scrub, even the gentle one, everyday. What I notice was that the facial scrub made my pores more visible, and make my face feel so dry afterward. Noxzema has that nice cooling and tingling effect on the skin, it also smells so good and refreshing (eucalyptus – just in case you are not fan for this scent). Within the first 2 weeks of usage I can see the difference on my pore, it look tighter and less visible.

  1. Clean and Clear Deep Cleansing Toner

For the night time, I use less toner than in the morning. In the evening, I use the toner only to make sure that there’s no makeup left on my skin.

  1. PM Perfector by Formula 10.0.6

This is a more recent product that I started to use. I noticed fine lines under my eyes and some dry patches, so I try to get more moisturizer and anti aging product on my skincare regime. First time using it, it felt really nice on the skin, absorbed quickly and my skin feel softer in the morning. Oh, one more thing Formula 10.0.6 products have really nice scent. This night cream has fruity sweet scent (It’ said blackcurrant and licorice on the packaging)

  1. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

I use this for a lot of things. For night skincare regime I put this under my eye as an eyecream ( I read the article about this on Pinterest) I also put this on my lips as a lipbalm, I mix it with honey and sugar for lipscrub too. Well basically, this product will always go with me anywhere I go 🙂

Weekly Routine

  1. Pores Be Pure Skin Clarifying Mud Mask

This mud mask is a big help for my big pores! It smells really nice too! I try to put on facemask at least twice a week. At first I didn’t believe that you need to dedicate so much time to take care of your skin, but after trying this product, I’m addicted to it! It really cleans up your pores, noticeable shrinking pores after using it, and refreshing effect. Not to mention this mask makes my skin look more refreshed and not looking dull.

  1. St Ives Green Tea Scrub

We can’t deny that exfoliation is very important. I limit myself to exfoliate to twice a week only. I exfoliate in the middle of the week, and on weekend to relax. Usually followed by putting on the face mask after exfoliation. Exfoliation really helps to reduce the texture on the skin, especially dry flakes from acne scare.

FINAL WORDS

Finding the right skincare is not easy, and it does take a long time to adjust, but it is really important and necessary. Give a new product a try at least for 2 weeks on your skin to see whether it suits you or not. It’s never too early to take good care of your skin, however please make sure that you use the right product and what’s necessary for your skin and age. I personally didn’t really pay attention to skincare product (moisturizer, face mask, night cream) until I reached 25. A good face wash based on your skin type, and toner for my oily skin girls out there are enough to begin with.

Let me know what’s your skincare routine, Girls or if you have any product suggestion for my skin condition =D

Peace Out!

Palette Explorer : Juvias Place – Masquerade Mini Palette

Why do I get This?

I bought this palette because I was disappointed of the Urban Decay Full Spectrum palette. I ended up return it to Ulta. (review about the Full Spectrum palette here) As a replacement of finding colorful palette to play with, I heard about Juvias Place few months ago but wasn’t really paying attention then, I came across this palette again from someone post in Instagram and really drawn to it. At the back of my head, why do I need another colorful palette? But I just can’t help myself, looking at those jewel tones, especially the blue, purple and green, makes me impulsively add it to cart and checkout (again, no self control at all =D )

First Impression

This palette is stunningly beautiful. I ordered it online on Friday, then it arrived on Wednesday so it’s pretty quick, I’m impressed.

img_1632

First time I saw the box, I thought it’s a really unique packaging in pretty bright fuschia with a very artistic (for me) African theme image. When I saw the colors inside, I can say I was really surprised, they’re all so vibrant and insanely pretty (maybe I’m biased cause these tones are my favorite haha..) After that, of course I couldn’t help myself not to do finger swatch. Girl, the colors pigmentation is out of this world. Awesome. I don’t regret to kiss the Full Spectrum palette goodbye.

Palette Review

For total price of 31.62 (palette is $25.87-10% off with code 2017 in the website, and $5.75 for shipping) this palette is really awesome and the quality is just as good if not better than some other more expensive palette.

I bought the mini one, but there’s nothing mini about it. This palette is bigger than Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette. The round pans insides are bigger than Kat Von D metal rows pan. I’m not so concern about price per gram for any of my palettes, but I feel this palette really worth the price.

img_1619

You get 16 colors of eye shadow with the colorful tones on the top 2 rows and the last 2 rows are your neutral color (leaning to warm tones). Most of the colors here are satin/sheen finish, but you do have some matte on the neutral rows. Claiming as “… a cosmetic brand providing you with the most rich, vibrant and highly pigmented essential colors of life…” they really live up to their claim on their website. All the colors in this palette are crazily pigmented, there’s no need to press it at all, just a finger swipe and you can get the color just like what you see in the palette.

c9e0a3aa-9b8b-42dd-aa60-230b743368a7

First time I’m using it, I just washed my face and put moisturizer on. No foundation, no eye primer, no face primer, and holly molly this eye shadow stays put beautifully. I can say that this is love at the first swipe. Of course, I just couldn’t put one eye look because the colors are too irresistible so, two different eye looks at once =D

Final Finding (4 out of 5)

  1. Pigmentation is great! It applies very well even without any primer or any foundation on my face. This palette pigmentation is very comparable to Kat Von D Metal Matte Palette (which I can say my best buy palette of 2016).
  2. Texture is a little dry, not butter soft but still smooth, not powdery at all. This really reminds me of Urban Decay shimmer shadow in naked palettes. I notice very little fallout, but not a problem at all for me
  3. Blendability Really easy to blend without being blend away. Colors blend together very well but not losing it’s original color
  4. Longevity It stays put, doesn’t budge, doesn’t smear (again, even without any primer or base)
  5. Stand Alone Definitely yes. You get matte shadows here, and even for me with hooded eyes, the shimmer here are very forgiving. I usually will always avoid shimmer or sheen shadow for my crease because it will accentuate my hood, but the colors here are so easy to manipulate not to expose it. The color choice is amazing and very versatile. For light skin color, the colors will really show up, for deeper skin tone this palette will work just as fine.

At the end, I highly recommend this palette. I’m pretty sure that this palette is one of the products that I know I will enjoy using it a lot

If you have this palette, or plan to buy it let me know in the comment section below.
