My Very FIRST Anti Haul

Hey Everyone,

Y’all know the drill here already and know what anti haul is all about. Long story short, it’s the list of items that I’m not gonna buy. All hail Kimberly Clarke on YouTube that started this

So without further ado, let’s get into it..

First up is, the Kylie ‘new’ bronze palette

One word, BORING. Before you even think to buy this, check your Modern Renaissance, Naked Heat, Tarte Toasted and that hundreds (hmm…) of Colourpop palettes. Unless you’re really really new into makeup, I bet you already have all these colours in your collection.

Up Next…. Colourpop X MakeupShayla

Well here’s another example of the palette bombing by Colourpop. This one is their collab is with MakeupShayla. The colour choice is just not inspiring for me. Probably because of the very graphic background, so it makes the colours in the palette don’t really pop out. Anyway, for me there’s nothing really special and unique from this palette.

Go get yourself some singles instead to get that pop of colors 😉

Next one is actually kinda make me consider to get it just because I love the brand. Her eyeshadow quality is quite up there so this Kat Von D palette surely attract me

but, it makes me want to say Hello again Metal Matte palette..Oops, wrong palette?

This really looks gorgeous but then again, it doesn’t make me go head over heels to get this one. Besides, the color selection is so similar with the metal matte, pastel goth and some other of her palette launched before. Sorry Kat Von D, I love your brand and products but this time I gotta pass

Next one is

Nothing against Laura Lee here, but none of her palettes caught my eyes. Personally, it’s just another news that I know of but not an exciting one. It is not enough to make me want to do something about it. Pretty packaging though.

Pfiuh…so many palettes released here

These 2 give me a serious dejavu. The coral one is very STD aka standard-looking. Just another warm tone palette from different brand. Next? The Gemstone one kinda tickle me a little, but only shimmers in one palette? I know my lazy ass will only use it a couple times, with another palette to compliment it but after that it’s gonna be a long term tenant in my drawer.

Well all in all, if you feel like any of these items here go get it and share your thought here.

Or do you have your own anti haul list? Please feel free to share it

Top 5 Foundation for Oily Dehydrated Skin

Hey Pretties!

Here are my top 5 foundations after I optimized my makeup collection.

These foundations work well with my skin condition.

My current skin condition

Oily, slightly dehydrated with big pore and hormonal acne during ‘that’ time of the month

My cup of foundation

Medium coverage with natural finish. Even though I have oily skin, I don’t really like matte foundations because I also have large pores and matte foundations tend to make it look too dry.

So here are they, my top 5

1. Mac Face and Body Foundation

Why is this my number 1 fave you ask? Well, despite being the lightest in texture and giving you very sheer coverage, this foundation looks really good on my skin. It looks really natural and gives you very skin like appearance. I also love how this foundation doesn’t really need primer but still stay put and looks good after long hour wearing it.

PS: this is also a really good choice for the glass skin look

2. Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation

In my opinion, this is one of the underrated foundations on the market. Beauty gurus always rave about the GA luminous silk, but this one is also worth the hype. It has slightly more matte finish but still looks very beautiful on the skin.

3.Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation

Wow, isn’t it a mouthful 😆 Anyway, this ‘newcomer’ got my attention since the first time I tried it on. I tried this one because all the good reviews coming from oily skin Youtubers, and Girls, do I like this one so much. It does say matte on the packaging but on my skin it looks more satin-ish. It sits beautifully on the skin, stay put and doesn’t look greasy even though I wear it under the sun for looong hour

4. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

This is more of a tinted moisturizer than a foundation. It has really sheer and natural coverage, and also feels really light weight on the skin. This is my go to on hot summer day, or just when I need a quick ‘put together’ look

5. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation

Long story short, this is like the thicker version of the Mac Face and Body Foundation. It still a very light and watery in consistency but it has more pigment. Using 1 layer of this foundation, gives me more coverage than the Mac one. One reason why this only come at number 5 is because it’s trickier to work with. This foundation isn’t easily to be sheered out. While the Mac one works really well mixed with almost all moisturizer or liquid highlighter, this Tarte one doesn’t always mixed well.

So, are there any of these foundations your favorite too?

Or if you have similar skin type with me, what’s your favorite foundation that’s not listed here?

Something old, something new, something peach

Hey y’all!

You probably already know that Too Faced has ‘delivered’ a new peach palette and, probably you already got it too 😊

Well, I’ve been trying so hard not to get it because I have so many similar shades in my collection. I even tried to ‘create’ my own palette with some singles, but I just can’t resist it, and not to mention the 30% discount is too good to miss, right?

So what do I think about this palette?

1. It’s gorgeous!

Can we all sit for a lil bit and just enjoying this eye candy? Look at all those gorgeous shades! With some disappointing products that Too Faced launched before this one, this palette has certainly rekindled my love for Too Faced. They’re all gorgeous, soft and buttery to touch, don’t forget it smells awesome too. If you don’t like the strong peachy scent from the first palette, you’ll probably like this one better because its scent is more subtle

One more thing, In my opinion Just Peachy palette has the best packaging from all TooFaced eyeshadow. It’s thick sturdy plastic packaging with nice closure that’s not just magnet. It also comes in a really nice size, which make it very travel friendly

2. It’s easy to use

Talking about pigmentation here, let’s just set an agreement here that Too Faced eyeshadows have never been wham! bam! in your eyes pigmented. Don’t get me wrong here, they are pigmented enough but it’s not to the ‘unforgivable’ level. You don’t need to worry that you will get strong punch of color if you don’t go light hand on application . I will say that the Just Peachy matte is a tad more pigmented and easier to intensify the color. In terms of blendability, they’re both easy to blend without looking muddy or just blend away to each other.

How does this compared to the old one?

Glad that you ask! If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you won’t know much I love my sweet peach palette. But first let me get this out of the way, the first time I saw this palette announcement I did see some similarities to the old one. They do have peachy vibe but Just Peachy palette for me is really the amplified version of the Sweet Peach. (Probably what a peach palette should be in the first place 😉)

Now, compared side by side to the old Sweet peach palette, I can say that the old one is more muted in tone. The pigmentation is softer and more subtle.

When doing this swatches, I didn’t expect that they have so many similar shades. Well, here they are as you can see that they really are siblings 😊 (I don’t swatch all the shades in the Sweet Peach palette) I will just call the old one as the shy one and the new one is the bold.

These palettes compliment each other very well, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t use them just on it’s own. You do need to layer and build up the color in the Sweet Peach palette  more to get the similar intensity with the new one

Which one to get?

In terms of quality, I’ll say that they’re both in the same good quality of TooFaced eyeshadow.

In terms of pigmentation, based on my preference I prefer the Just Peachy palette

If you don’t have so many eyeshadow palettes and you want some variation and colors in your collection, go with the Sweet Peach one.

If you love all matte look, especially for this time of the year I’d suggest the Just Peachy one

If you’re a makeup addict like me with little to none self control whatsoever then get them both 😉

Minimalist Makeup Kit – Drugstore Version

Dear Pretties,

Have you ever sit on your makeup vanity and wonder how do we end up with all those goodies there? How did it begin? When did it start to piling up? 😉 Well, I did.

While reorganizing my collection during my moving period last month, a random thought crossed my mind. If I have to start all over again, knowing what I know now about makeup, what will be my choice to start a makeup collection?

Here I create two kits based to start a simple, complete and pretty solid choice to begin your makeup journey. Or, if you just want to downsize your makeup collection (check out my downsizing post here) dMy kits here are created based on my skin condition and need. I have combo oily skin with big pores on my nose, sensitive, and hormonal acne during that time of our life, Girls, every month 😉

Let’s begin with the drugstore version, shall we

IMG_5049

Face

1.Nyx Angel Veil – 15.99

This is claimed to be the dupe of Hourglass Mineral Veil. For me, it’s not necessarily a dupe. The Nyx is a tad bit more slippy than the Hourglass one but the feel on the skin

2. Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation – 12.99

This is my most preferred foundation that won’t make me look like grease ball for the longest time

3. Rimmel Stay Matter Pressed Powder – 5.49

Need I say more about this cult classic? Keep oil at bay at all time

IMG_5053

4. Physician Formula Butter Bronzer – $ 14.99

Great smell, have a pretty neutral undertone, easy to build the pigmentation without going overboard

5. Nyx Sweet Cheek Blush Palette – $ 19.99

It has all the color choice of blush that you can think of

*Optional

  • Elf Contour palette, if you’re into detail contouring, if not the bronzer will do just fine
  • Nyx Strobe of Genius, for the highlighter fans, you will get all tones of highlighter you need in one palette

Eyes

6. Nyx Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palette – $16.99/ Colourpop Pressed Powder (singles option) – $ 5.00

I like the formula of these eyeshadow, very comparable to the high end one. Both, the palette and the singles are very easy to work with. Nix Prismatic eyeshadow is also another good choice for singles.

7. L’oreal Silkissime – 9.49 Pencil Eyeliner / Maybelline Master Precise – 8.49

The Silkissime is great for waterline (PS: Emily Noel APPROVED) and the Maybelline is great for that sharp wing

8. Lash Sensational Mascara/ L’oreal Carbon Black – 8.99

I love the curvy wand of the Lash Sensational and the dense of Loreal one for more volume and dramatic effect

PS: i think drugstore mascara are better than high end one, Maybelline has the best choice 😉

Lips

IMG_5051

9. Maybelline Lipstick – 7.49

Maybelline has one of the best lipstick choice at the drugstore. Be it the type of lipstick (classic bullet or liquid), color, pigmentation and formula. If you’re a fan of liquid lipstick, Wet n Wild Catsuit is a great option. But if you’re picky like me, and doesn’t like the drying feel on the lips, L’oreal Infallible Lip Paints is a much more comfortable choice.

Finish

  1. Mario Badescu setting spray (rose) – 12.00

This spray works really well for skin prep, to set the makeup to make it stay put. Smells really good too. A recent choice that’s also really great is the Milani Make It Last setting spray.

Total : $ 124.41

So, do you have these in your collection? or what will you suggest for creating a complete makeup kit? Let me know in the comments down below, or leave your idea on my Instagram and Twitter

Stay tune for the “more fancy” version of this minimalist makeup kit 😀

Essence Colour Correcting Stick

Hey Pretties,

Essence kindly sent me their cute awesome goodies to play with last month. It’s their Colour Correcting Stick, which at that time I didn’t know that they have it. Now, y’all can find these colour correcting sticks at Essence website, Ulta (they’re having BOGO 50% now) or Target.

IMG_1034

Now, let’s get into the review but first,

Let me let you know about my relationship with colour corrector

The first time I received this product, I wasn’t a regular user of colour corrector in any type. The only color-correcting product that I have is the peach corrector from LA Girl. I only use peach corrector because that’s the only shade that I need to correct my skin tone. Little that I know, after I receive these sticks, my relationship with color corrector is about to change once and for all

First Impression

Great job, Essence! I love that this comes in stick form, it makes the application much quicker and easier. First off, the packaging is really cute yet so meaningful, because you can easily identify which one is which. I looove when a brand put their thought for their packaging, especially when it comes from the more affordable brand. Cheap price doesn’t always mean cheap packaging. Second, the formula of this color correcting is really beautiful. They’re very opaque but not crazily pigmented that will alter your concealer or foundation shade. The stick of the texture is more on the dry side but still creamy and easy to blend. My favorite method to apply this is by using my finger to melt and push the product into the skin. Lastly, it doesn’t really need to be set with powder. As for the wear time, I can say that this product stay put nicely on my combo-oily skin for good 8 hours without creasing. Even when I used only this product without topping it of with concealer, it last long and sit beautifully on my skin.

Product details:

IMG_1041

There are 5 shades of the color correcting sticks

Peach : Neutralizes dark spot

I use this in the mix with the yellow one for my under eye area. Hands down my favorite and the one that I use the most out of all five. I like this peach tone so much because it’s more to the peachy pink instead of orange peach. For the no makeup look, this stick has been a great choice.

Yellow : Conceal dark circle

As it’s explained above, I mix the yellow stick with the peach one for the dark circle, especially when I’m going on a full glam look, otherwise I only use the peach one.

Green : Neutralizes the appearance of redness

This is my life-saver on those days of the month when my hormonal acne came up. It covers the acne pretty well

Pink    : Brigtens tired looking skin

I don’t use much of this color, as it goes too light for my current skin tone. I think I will use this more in winter time when my skin is lighter.

Lavender : Eliminates dullness and sallow looking skin

This stick is also almost untouched. Only use it 1-2 times for the past month. Based on the color theory, purple or in this case lavender, is good for eliminating any unwanted yellow undertones on your skin. So if you have warm undertone, I think you will be able to use this stick more than me.

Final Verdict

Do you need all of them? I don’t think so. As you have read above, not all shades are useful for me. I will definitely get the peach and green ones again. If you need all colors, by all means but for me I will stay with what I need.

Is it recommended? Yes, yes, yes.

My combo oily skin loves this stick. It stays put, blends beautifully, not drying, flakey, doesn’t crease or get cakey at all. It also doesn’t separate for a long day usage. It works well with all of my concealer and foundation. For $ 4.49, and the amount of product you get, they’re really worth it. Another plus point for me is that this correcting stick is easy to apply. A little stroke goes a long way 😉

Finally, as I don’t really have many experiences with color correcting before I can’t really say much on how this product compared to the other brands. If you have tried this and compare it to the other brand, please let me know your opinion in the comment section below.

Going Minimalist : Downsizing My Makeup Collection Part 2 – How?

IMG_5009

Hey Guys!

Welcome to the second part of my attempt to go minimalist on my makeup collection. Today we’re gonna talk about how to do it, where to start and all that good stuff and the steps here are all based on my opinion, my way. If you have other ideas on how to do it, please share and let me know on the comment section below 😉

I am by no mean an expert on this minimalist lifestyle, but everybody gotta start somewhere aren’t they? So, let’s just say this is me sharing with you, from a friend to friends, on how I do this. Honestly I never thought that I will be able to do this myself ut I’m determined to do it. If you want to know why I want to downsize and somehow start to go minimalist on my makeup, go check out my previous post about it.

Now, without further due, let’s get into my “method” on how I downsize my makeup collection.

It’s all started with your mindset

Knowing what you want from what you have is the starting point. Yep, don’t ever doubt the power of your mind. Start to picture how and what you want your collection look like? Do you want it to be just essentials? basic stuff? or full glam room like your mini sephora or ulta at home?

If your head say that you can’t go minimalist, chance is you will keep saying you will go minimalist but  you will end up never gonna do it it. It’s because in your head you already know that it’s not possible and you won’t do it. On the other hand, if you picture to have a vanity with only 2 drawers in the vanity that can hold or your collection then it’s not hard for you to resist all that new stuff that’s running around your IG and YouTube feed 😉

The way I started this “attempt” is by putting this simple thought in my head : One, I know and fully realize my love for makeup is undeniably huge, Two, I accept that there is no way that I can live with only a tray of makeup goodies like a pro-minimalist. Last but not least, I accept the fact that eyeshadow palette is my weakness so it’s gonna be the part of my collection that will be “extra” but I also realize that I have to be able to control myself to be more selective when I’m buying new palette. I know it sounds crazy right now, but once we get to the second step it will be more clearer.

Get to know more on what you need

I know damn well that one, bright orange, neon pink and yellow eyeshadow is not gonna work on me, and two, I also very aware that I’m very aware of my skin texture that’s why I’m grateful that I’m not a highlighter fan, nor do I will look good with blinding highlight. From these two things, I already know that I won’t need that Natasha Denona sunset palette, doesn’t matter how pretty it looks because I won’t like how the colors look like on my skin tone. I will also do not the Tarte unicorn palette with shimmers in it because my slightly hooded eyes won’t be really able to show all those colors in it. Did I want them the first time I saw them? Sure I did, but once you know in deep what you need from makeup and what suits you best, it’s easier to talk yourself out of not to buy something.

Be more aware on your habit and preference when doing your  makeup. It took me a month to realize what look I really like, enjoy, and always come back to. Check your YouTube history of makeup tutorials you watch, believe it or not you will see a pattern there because you will search the look that you know you can imitate or you like. Let me know if you want me to discuss about my favorite YouTuber, I can definitely do that =D

Back to the makeup need, here is the epiphany I got after examining my makeup habit: I always go for a simple, fresh, occasionally soft smokey look for day time and smokey look with pop of colors or occasionally glam for night time or events (my YouTube history full of the word “fresh look, natural look, no makeup look. smokey eye, simple smokey eye, smokey eye with pop of colors )

It also very important and will help a lot if you know what look that suits your face , skin and eye color you have so you can sort out better on what you need on makeup. By knowing all that, not only it will help you choose and declutter the makeup easier, but also it will be very helpful for your makeup application and make sure that doesn’t matter what you choose to put on it will always look good on you.

The next part is to sort out what you have in your current collection, keep what you need and you know it will work well on you and let go all the things that, again, you already know it won’t look good on you and you never reach for God knows how long. There’s better home for that “untouchable” items, or if it’s waaaay too old then time to throw it away.

I believe that more often than not, you will already have what you need and probably more than one too. Whether you realize it or not, everybody have a type so it’s not surprising that you will have the same color lipsticks (obviously duh..lol) or eyeshadow over and over again because unconsciously people tend to gravitate toward something that is strongly influenced by their preference

Keep What Makes You Comfortable

This is more than just how a product feel on you, but also the number of product you want to keep. If you don’t feel comfortable to have only 1 eyeliner at a time, don’t feel guilty to have a backup (or two) or other options, but definitely it’s not necessary to have 5 black eyeliners right?

For me, it’s very highly unlikely that you will see me in full coverage, full glam makeup with bright eyes and falsies because one, I don’t like how full coverage foundation feel on my skin, two, I don’t like falsies, and three all those things mentioned are not things that I’m comfortable with. So why bother to have those items that I know I won’t enjoy using and probably will never use? On the other hand, I won’t be able to stop thinking about the new eyeshadow palettes which are going to be launched the upcoming months and it’s gonna be a lie if I say that I’m not interested at all. The fact that I have, let’s just say more than I actually need palettes in my collection doesn’t make me feel guilty if I buy more. Again, minimalism or minimalist is not about number, but about enjoying what you have and focusing on what’s important so you can feel happy

Take it Easy on Your Heart

By know y’all probably already know that I’m a proud eyeshadow palette collector (who am I kidding? yes, I am a hoarder) and lipsticks. There’s nothing that can stop me from collecting palettes but now I’m being more selective and really examine the shades in the palette that I’m going to buy. It’s easier for me know to not buying palettes, doesn’t matter how “hype” it is. If I see that the shades are not what I will use a lot, I won’t buy it. Watch some Anti Haul video also helps me to rationalize my choice 😉 All hail Kimberly Clark, the fairy godmother of Anti Haul!

Being happy and being able to enjoy the items you have is the key in being minimalist (at least this is what I learn from the other people who already do this) I’m happy with my collection and I have let some items go too. I also love my lippies collection even though my husband say they look all the same color  but hey, I like having 10 nude pink lipstick and lipgloss and enjoying 12coral brown lip color

Shop your Stash

This is something that I already start before I choose to go minimalist. With the overwhelming makeup launch every day (yes, you know what I’m talking about) it’s very important to know what you already have and again, what you enjoy to use. Shop your stash is basically looking at your collection, closely, and compare that to the new launch. This “shopping” activity will remind you on what you already have and whether or not this item still excite you.

It’s very unlikely that you find me drooling over the launch of new highlighters, because basically I’m not a big fan of highlighter and I’m happy with the highlighters that I have now. But hey, the new naked heat palette doesn’t excite me much either cause I know it won’t bring out the heat in me 😉 Do I have highlighter? Yes I do. Did that Naked Heat palette attract me? Yes it did, but I do already have similar color in my collection and it’s not my regular cup of tea so i’m not bothered 😉

At the end of the day, start at the stage where you feel you’re most comfortable with. If you’re happy that you have mini Sephora at your home, embrace it. You can probably use this method for your clothing item, or kitchen stuff.

If you enjoy this series, stay alert for the last part on what item that I minimize the most. Hit that follow and like button, and don’t hesitate to stalk me on social media

Peace Out!

Going Minimalist : Downsizing My Makeup Collection Part 1 – Why?

IMG_5010

Hey Guys, so so sorry for being MiA.

No excuse, just being uninspired and not really buying a lot of makeup to review lately 😉 Long story short, May as a no buy month was a great success 🙂

Anyway, since I’m in the middle of moving to a new house in the next few weeks, I have to start to pack up my makeup carefully, and like it or not I have to choose which one that I really need and which one that I can pack up first. While I was doing it, I also think why not decluttering it and downsizing my collection all at once. I watched many videos about minimalism and I found it interesting and I have started to apply it on my wardrobe first. Now, here I am bringing that minimalist idea to my makeup collection

Let me know in the comment section if you want to see the minimalist series that is not only on makeup department.

Alright then, let’s get into why I decided to minimize my makeup collection

  1. Practicality

These are 3 questions that I asked myself when I start to think about downsizing

  • How long do I actually need to put makeup on?
  • How long do I want to spend time doing my makeup?
  • How long from that required time that you actually use to think and choose what color or what product that you want to use?

Let’s be honest, most likely you will keep most of the product on you use on daily basis on the top of the vanity desk or the drawer that you will definitely open every day for easy access. Hence the beauty gurus or influencer have their everyday drawer or product they used the most, or whatever that sophisticated glam term it may be 😉 It is also most likely (if not always) you will tend to grab what’s already on your desk and most definitely what’s on your desk is all that you need, because it’s just more practical, simple and easy that way.

Practicality and simplicity are something that I really enjoy in my daily life (hence my Husband calls me simple-minded or over simplicity often) and Girls, do I love being simple. Who wouldn’t like to be able to look put together and without caking up the face all the time? Psst, 5 minute makeup look or no makeup look videos are still the most popular and most searched in YouTube 😉

Well, by having less products in the collection makes it more practical, easier and faster to do your makeup. You don’t have to spend time to think what to use, what to choose from your items and you know what makeup look that you like for everyday basis. After all, it’s not like we put full face cut crease, bright eyeshadow, sharp dramatic wing liner everyday right?

  1. Expiration Date

How many of us that can proudly say that we use up all of makeup product that we have, and only throw it away because the container is really empty? Or  do we throw product away because we don’t remember when did we buy it or how long has it been sitting in our drawer, untouched for a long time? I know I’m guilty for this more often than I like to admit.

We all know that makeup products have limitation on their glory days, so why piling up stuff that you know yourself won’t be able to use it? Either it’s because it’s a wrong shade of foundation or the lipsticks that you know damn well you will only use it once or twice a year. Instead of letting many product going expired unused, why not use up several product that you know you will enjoy using and looking good when you putting it on.

  1. Basic Purpose

Knowing what’s the purpose of putting makeup on and the purpose of each product you have is definitely very important. This is the most fundamental and the basic idea of why I decide to downsize my collection. I look back to the basic purpose of makeup for me. I use makeup to make myself feel good, look good and sometimes I use it to express my “artsy” side and last but not least, I love to see a pretty corner in my bedroom with items that I love to look at and enjoy using. So when that corner is no longer pretty to look at, and it starts to create a pile of clutter and look too packed and crowded for my liking, that’s when I know that I need to downsize them.

If you’re a makeup artist or beauty influencer, it’s understandable that makeup has other purpose than just to make you feel good or look good. As a makeup artist, you will need a lot of products for your option to put on clients and of course, you will also have the place to put and organize your makeup in, instead of letting those pretty stuff lying around everywhere. On the other hand, if you’re just a regular makeup user with some (I dare not to say a little, cause that will be a lie) obsession to makeup 😉 like myself, I don’t think all people need beauty room or glam room that take up a whole room to itself. I remember one time My Mom saw my collection and what she said was “How many pairs of eyes you have that makes you need (at that time) 17 eyeshadow palettes?” and of course I could only grin at her LoL..

Well, If you do have that glam room, and feel the need to have that and happy with it, by all means, enjoy what you have and what you like. Like Jaclyn Hill said, you do you, Boo. For me, and maybe mostly the other regular makeup users, we probably have a vanity desk and a little storage for makeup items that we don’t use everyday. Instead of going crazy to get that white Ikea drawer to fill up, why not thinking to get makeup based on what fit in the storage that you already have? If it fits before, why not keeping it that way?

  1. Skin Health

The less product you have means that you will have product that you know it will work for your skin and suits your skin best. The more often we change product on our face, we have to be ready with the consequences whether it’s gonna work good or it’s gonna break us out, and let’s not forget that our skin need time to adjust every time with new product that we try on.

By going minimalist, now that I know exactly what products that I have, I know what problems that might come with the product I have and how to handle it easily. For example, by only having smaller collection of foundations I know which one that I want to use for sheer coverage or which one I should get when I want a little fuller coverage.

Going minimalist also makes me focus more on how to keep my skin on its A game. Having less product and personally I tend gravitate towards lightweight item, makes me have less skin problem. Having good solid skincare for me is more pleasing now because it makes it easier to apply my makeup and to be honest, less product needed too

All in all, going minimalist is a concept to make our life easier and happier. It’s also a better of personal choice. If by having a room full of makeup it makes you happy then enjoy it! But if you start to feel that makeup take over your space or even your life (cause you know there are people feel this way out there) then try downsize it, choose what you like, what make you happy and enjoy.

I am by no means is a total minimalist in term of the amount of what I have right now, but at least it’s not the amount that makes me think that my collection is getting out of hand. Stay tune for more discussion about this minimizing makeup series.

Scentbird : Perfume Subscription Box

Hey Pretties,

I would like to talk about something that’s kinda rare to be discussed in the beauty community. Probably because it’s kinda hard to explain and really depend on personal preference. So, here it is, the perfume time!

Few weeks ago, Scentbird  very kindly sent me one of their perfume to try on. And for you who doesn’t have much time to read, here is the disclaimer: I LOVE IT. Love the smell, love the bottle.

For you who have more time, here is the details on this perfume by Scentbird

What is Scentbird?

If you are subscribed to ipsy, boxycharm, you won’t be a stranger for this kind of service. Scentbird is similar to them, but instead of getting several beauty products, you just get a perfume to try each month for $14.95.

Feel free to use my link to register here. The link is not affiliated, it’s just like other subscription box where you and me can get free perfume if you sign up using my link. If you’re not comfortable with that, feel free to go directly to Scentbird website directly at http://www.scentbird.com

Once you’re registered, you can choose these options:

  1. choose the perfume you wanna try for each month based on your preference or get the perfume based on the perfume of the month chosen by Scentbird
  2. you can also buy samples for other perfumes that you want to try with the (a la carte option) for $ 16.95 and some perfumes are available in the full size too.

 Is it worth it?

Well, it depends on how much you like to spend on perfume. As a cost comparison:

The perfume for April is Mon Guerlain by Guerlain.

In Sephora, it retails for $66 for 1.0 flOZ/ 30ml which means it cost $2.2 per ml,  meanwhile with Scentbird it costs $14.95 for 0.27 flOz/8ml which means it cost $1.8 per ml

What perfume can I choose?

Almost all designer brands perfumes you can try. Scentbird has a very wide range of perfume to choose. They have Issey Miyake, Burberry, Lancome, Gucci, Bvlgari, you name it.

If you look for suggestion, here are some of my favorite perfumes that’s available in Scentbird

  1. The Beat by Burberry
  2. Be Delicious by DKNY
  3. Mon Jasmin Noir by Bvlgari

Pro and Cons?

Pro :

  1. you don’t have to splurge a huge amount of money to try on luxury perfumes. It has a very decent size, unlike the tiny sample from Sephora or Ulta.
  2. the bottle is very cool, compact and travel friendly. It’s a twist spray bottle that will be very unlikely to spill all over the place if you don’t close it properly.

Cons :

  1. the bottle doesn’t contain the name of the perfume so it’s hard to know which one is which.
  2. The scent doesn’t last all day. The scent fades away quicker than regular sample. As a perfume and EDT lover, I think the perfume in the bottle is kinda soften, even compared to the tiny samples from the mall or other retail store. As the smell isn’t as strong, it won’t last long time (or at least 6 hours like I usually prefer for when I’m wearing a perfume normally). This one feel almost like body mist in consistency. Well, you can always re-apply it, even though it won’t make it last as 30 days supply 🙂

Who is this for?

Definitely it will be very suitable for you who like to experiment with perfumes and different scent.

For me personally, I have my preference on my perfume. So I will end up choosing the same perfumes over and over again. But it’s nice to have option to try other perfume once in a while.

March Favorite

Hey Pretties,

IMG_3887

Just wanna say Hi to you all. Sorry I’ve been so inactive in my blog these past weeks, kinda “cheat” with the swimming pool as the weather’s been so warm (if not hot) here. I’m super late this month to write this, I know. But here we go with my super simple favorite of March. I’ve been in a very minimal product to use in March, so I use one palette to get a complete look.

1. Nyx Ultimate Bright Palette

img_2899

Since it’s spring already, I’ve been really digging the colorful tone in my eyes and this palette is a perfect fit for that. Personally, these are the tones of color that I will use in my eyes if I’m asked to do colorful eyes

2. Nyx Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette

This palette is beautiful! No kidding, all the shades are very wearable and have enough pigmentation to be used eyeshadow too. I’ve been using this palette a lot since I got it, especially for the days that I just want a very minimal makeup that makes me look put together

3. Physician Formula Butter Bronzer

I’m trying to get my tan back but not really a fan of self-tanning products so this bronzer has been a really best friend for me in the month of March. I use it pretty much all over my face because it has a very subtle bronze, matte and looks really good just like face powder. You can also build it up without looking muddy or cakey.

4. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation

Great formula for my oily skin, very liquidy but still have decent natural coverage that I like. Full review on this foundation was on my last post. It’s also buildable to medium coverage when I need it. This foundation also mixes very well with my moisturizer as a tinted moisturizer

5. Formula 10.0.6 Shine Free Moisturizer

You guys know that I’m super oily, so the less product for me the better. I’m obsessed with this moisturizer ever since I got it. It does keep the oil at bay, help my face looks dewy (not oily) and help to make my make up stay put longer. It has a light creamy consistency, and apply very well when I mix it with liquid foundation (I’ve been mixing it with my Tarte or Mac Face and Body Foundation)

6. Mac Prep + Prime Fix+ Rose

You guys know all the drill about Mac Fix+, and this one is just those good stuff with rose scent added. Love it to intensify eyeshadow, prep my skin before foundation and also setting up my makeup.

Do any of you like to “cut corner” in putting on makeup 😉 just to make it faster to get ready?

Let me know in the comment below if you like less makeup product when it’s spring-summer time

Peace out!
